EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize and appropriate insurance proceeds in the amount of
$197,726.00 and to approve a Budget Amendment to fund the replacement of a damaged
ambulance for the Emergency Medical Services Department in the amount of $199,816.00.
OBJECTIVE: To receive approval from the Board of County Commissioners to utilize
insurance and grant proceeds to fund the replacement of a damaged ambulance.
CONSIDERATIONS: In November 2008, Truck #28 sustained heavy damage in a motor
vehicle accident. The insurance company made the determination to total the ambulance with an
insurance va1ue of $197,726.110. The current replacement cost for an equivalent ambulance is
$199,816. To better accommodate the special operations and tactical medic units, a four-
passenger crew cab is needed. The State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency
Services has recognized this need and approved the use of grant monies to fund the difference
between the regular replacement amount and the upgraded version in the amount of $27,182, for
a total cost of $226,998. A Budget Amendment is necessary to provide the current replacement
value of $199,816.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds in the amount of $199,816 are available in Fund 490 Carry forward
- and the balance of the cost of the replacement vehicle, $27,182, is available in Fund 491 - EMS
Grants.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is legally sufficient for Board action. - JBW
GROWTH IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from this action.
RECOMMENDA TION: That the Board of County Commissioners:
1. Recognize and appropriate insurance proceeds in the amount of$197,726; and
2. Approve a Budget Amendment in the amount of$199,816, the current replacement value
for an ambulance for the Emergency Medical Services Department.
