EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve the submittal of a Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant
Application to the Florida Division of Forestry for the purchase of VHF radios and
authorize the Chairman to sign the application.
OBJECTIVE: That the Board of County Commissioners approves an application for a
Volunteer Fire Assistance matching (50150) grant for the purchase of five mobile and three
portable VHF radios.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Isles of Capri Fire Rescue District has received this
Volunteer Fire Assistance grant from the Division of Forestry in past years, including
$2,392 awarded in 2008 and $1.670 awarded in 2007. This grant has been used to
purchase equipment to improve firefighter safety and firefighting capabilities. The VHF
radios will be used to conununicate with the Division of Forestry and other federal
agencies. VHF radios are the only radios being utilized by these agencies in all wildland
fire incidents throughout the state of Florida.
--- FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the equipment requested this year is $5,442.50. As
this is a 50150 matching grant, the Division of Forestry will pay $2,7211.25 leaving the Isles
of Capri Fire Rescue District to provide $2,721.25 from the contingencies line of Fund 144
(Isles of Capri Fire Rescue). Following award, budget amendments NN-111 be needed in
order to transfer funds to Fund 118, Emergency Management and Fire Grants.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's
Office, and it is legally sufficient for Board action. -CMG
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact
resulting from this action.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the
submittal of a Volunteer Fire Assistance grant application to the Florida Division of
Forestry and authorizes the Chairman to sign the application.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CERTIFICATION
I. By signing and submitting this form, the prospective primary participant is providing the certification set out
on the reverse side in accordance with these instructions.
2. The inability of a person to provide the certification required below will not necessarily result in denial of
participation in this covered transaction. The prospective participant shall submit an explanation of why it
cannot provide the certification set out on this form. The certification or explanation will be considered in
connectinn with the department or acencv's determination whether to enter into this transaction. However,
failure of the prospective primary participant to furnish a certification or an explanation shall disqualify such
person from participation in this transaction.
3. The certification in this clause is a material representation of fact upon which reliance was placed when the
department or agency determined to enter into this transaction. If it is later determined that the prospective
primary participant knowingly rendered an erroneous certification, in addition to other remedies available to
the Federal Government, the department or agency may terminate this transaction for cause or default.
4. The prospective primary participant shall provide immediate written notice to the department or agency to
