WHEREAS, May, 2009 has been designated as Older Americans Month and is celebrated
nationally: the theme ;$ "Living Today for a Better Tomorrow"; and,
WHEREAS, this theme reflects the Administration on Agings continued focus on
prevention programs that help older adults have better health as they age
and avoid the risks of chronic disease and disability: and.
WHEREAS, Collier County is a community in which 75,000 citizens age 60 or older mak_
their home: and.
WHEREAS, Older Americans are valuable members of our society who are rich with
experience and deserving of our respect; and.
WHEREAS, Collier County Housing and Human Services has served as the Lead Agency far
more than 30 years and provides in-home services for 200+ frail and elderly
to assist them in remaining in their own home as long as feasibly possible;
and.
WHEREAS, Collier County Housing and Human Services feeds 155 homebound elderly with
home delivered meals and 125 more active seniors in the Nutrition Services
program in Immokalee, East Naples and the newest site of Golden Gatt:
Community Center: and.
WHEREAS. these numbers reflect a 50% increase in clients served through the dedication
and hard work of Heidi Fahnestock, Nutrition Program Leader, and other
staff: and,
WHEREAS, Co!!ier County Housing and I-/uman Services partners with health care
agencies, civic groups, community associations, and other county departments
to identify needs and utilize resources for our older residents.
NOW TI-IEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that May, 200~ be designated as
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
