PROCL AMA TION
WHEREAS, statistics from the U.S. Department of Justice show in a one year period 797,500
chIldren younger than 18 were reported missing resulting in an QYC"Oge of 2, J 85
chJ1dren being reported missing each day: and,
WHEREAS, since 1984, the National Center for Missing & Exploited ChIldren has assisted law
enforct!!ment with more than 154, 000 missing chJ1d casu, resulting in the recovery
of mol'tJ than J 38. 000 children: antt
WHEREAS, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children Qssists law enforcement in the
recovery of 96 % of domestically missing children, too many chJ1dren remain
unfound: one in six children featured in NeMEC's photo-distribution program are
recovered as Q direct result of someone recognizing the chdd in the picture: and,
WHEREAS. May 25. 2009 will mark the zr Nationa/Missing Children's Day, a day serving as
an annual reminder to review efforts to reunite missing children with their familles:
and.
WHEREAS. with a focus on prevention, the "Take 25'" program was started tu commemurate
National Missing Children's Day and encourages parents, guardians and trusted
adult role models to take 25 minutes to talk to children about ways to stay safe:
and.
WHeREAS, Collier County and the National Center for Missing & exploited Children are working
to bring prevention education programs. to parents and ch1'ldren through
partnerships with law enforcement, schools, libraries, community centers,
churches, and other cht1d-rearing organizations in our community: and
WHeReAS, on Mondoy, May 25. 2009 tire National Center far Missi"9 & exploited CMdren will
join with Collier County and City law enforcement professionals and volunteers at
the Dillards store inside Coast/and Mall to provide famHies safety brochures, free
child IDs and fingerprinting.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Co/(ier CtJUf1ty,
Florida, that May 25, 2009, be designated as
