PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, 2.9 mil/ion registered nurses in the United States, including th~ 2,400 in Collier County
comprise our nation's largest healthcare prcfesslon: and,
WHEREAS, thl! depth and breadth of the registered nurse profession ;s meeting fhe a/fhrent and
emerging healthcare nuds of the American population in a wide range of settings: and.
WHEREAS, nurses I education and holistic focus promotes restoration and maintenance of health in the
Individual and famIly; and,
WHEREAS, the American Nurses Asscc/ation, as fhe flrJice ft1r the registered nursu of this country, is
working to chart a new course for a healthy nation that relies on increasing delivery cf
primary ca~: and.
WHEREAS, D renewed emphasis all primary ancl preventatiw: hea/thcare WI'll require better utilization of all
of our nation's registered IWrsing resources; and.
WHEREAS, professional nursing has been demonstrated to be an indispensDble cDm/xment in the safety
and quality of core of 011 fMtients; and.
WHEREAS~ the demand for registert!d nursing services will be greatitr than ever because of the aging of
the America" population, the continuing growth of life-sustaining technolagy, and the explosive
growth of home health services; and.
WHEREAS, more qualified registered nurses Will be needed In the future to meet the increasingly complex
needs of healthcare in Collier County,- and.
WHEREAS, the cost-itffectivt! sofe and quality healthcare services provided by registered nurses wlYI be
an ever more important component of Collier County and the us healthcare delivery system in
the future.
NOW THEREFORE. be it proclaimed by the Board of County C(1mmissioners of Collier County, Florida and the
American Nurses Association along with the Florida Nurses Association, that the week of May
6t1r through May 12, 2009, be designated as
National Nurses Week 2009
with the theme ''Sullding A Healthy America, N in celebration of the ways in which registered
nurses strive to provide safe and high quality patient caf'e Dnd map out the way tt:I improve our
healtheare system. We a/so ask that all residt!nts ofCal/ler County jo;" us In honoring the
registend nurses who care ror all of us.. and ce/~brate registered nurses' accomplishments and
efforts to improve our healthcare system and show our appreciation for the nations registered
nurses, not just during this time, but at every opportunity thf'{1ughout the year.
