Recommendation for the Board of County Commissioners to accept funding from
South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) in the amount of $20,000.00
for the Florida Yards & Neighborhood Program managed by the Collier County
University of FloridallFAS Extension Department, and approve a budget
amendment in the amount of $20,000.00.
OBJECTIVE: To accept funds in the amount of $20,000.00 to enable Collier County
University of Florida/IFAS Extension Department to expand and increase resource
conservation education, specifically water conservation through the Florida Yards &
Neighborhood (FYN) Program.
CONSIDERATIONS: The FYN Program is a resource conservation outreach education
program for homeowners through workshops, site evaluations with follow-ups, and
literature. The FYN Program is administered through the University of Florida and
Collier County University Extension in partnership with government agencies and
stakeholders such as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and
Florida Sea Grant, local water management districts, and concerned citizens. The goal
of the Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program is reduction and prevention of non-point
source pollution and resource conservation in an effort to protect Florida's unique
environment.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for the FYN Program was not included in the University
Extension Department's FY 08-09 budget, therefore a budget amendment of
$20,000.00 is required.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: Environmental and resource conservation
education will increase homeowner stewardship awareness and assist in reducing
potential pollution impacts associated with increased residential growth.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is not quasi-judicial, and as such ex parte
disclosure is not required. This item requires majority vote only. This item is legally
sufficient for Board action. - CMG

District (SFWMD) in the amount of $20,000.00 for the Florida Yards & Neighborhood
Program managed by the Collier County University of FloridallFAS Extension
Department, and approve a budget amendment in the amount of $20,000.00.
