WI-ICREAS~ the Collier County Board of County Commissioners has hesn made aware of
potential drought conditions due to significant rainfall deficits: and,
WHEREAS, widespread drought conditions in combination with abnormally cold and dry
wintertime weather conditions can result in severe wildfire - threats and
outbreaks: antt
WH~EAS, wildfires pose a serious threat to the lives and property of the residents and
visitors of Collier County: and.
WHEREAS, public safety agencies, the Division af Forestry, and members of the
cammunity want to ensure that residents and visitors take responsibl1ity to
minimize the outbreak and spread of w;/dfire: and,
WHEREAS, the public is requested to assisf emergency responders by working to ensure a
defensible zone of 30' around their primary residence is clear of brush and
debris so as to minimize the spread of fire to homes and businesses: and.
WH€REAS, the public should help emergency vehicles proceed safely to the scene by
yielding for their safe passage: and,
WHEREAS, residents should ensure that their house numbers are clearly yisible and
access can be made by emergency equipment to help protect their homes:
and,
WHeREAS, residents should be prepared for emergency situations including evacuations,
if conditions became severe: and.
WH€REAS, residents should monitor local television, radio, and their NOAA Weather Alert
radio for emergency information during times of active wildfire events.
NOW THERCFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that March 10. 2009. be designated as
A Day of Heightened Awareness of Wildfire Danger in Collier County
