DISCUSSION OF FACILITIES AND SERVICES TO MEET PRESENT AND FUTURE REQUIREMENTS
IN THE BONITA SHORES/LITTLE HICKORY SHORES AND OTHER NORTH NAPLES AREAS PRE-
SENTED BY PLANNING DIRECTOR DANNY CREW AND UTILITY DIRECTOR IRVING BERZON
Before any presentation by staff, Commissioner Archer asked that an
additional workshop session be held next week in order for Commissioner Wimer
to be present when his questions, as well as those of Commissioner Archer,
are answered in regards to the subjed under discussion.
Dr. Danny Crew, Planning Director, gave the!following categories as
being the identifiable land located in tHe North flaples area:
1. Existing approved subdivisions
2. Land that is presently zoned but unimproved
3. Units that are in approved "PUDs"
4. Total of the three preceding categories gives a potential of 31.788 units
5. If all the other lands were developed according to the Comprehensive
Plan, there would be an additional 30,000 units mIl - giving a total of
approximately 62,000 units.

In way of explanation, Dr. Crew stated that in order to realize such a density
figure, approximately 100 years of construction would have to be made a reality.

approximately 100 years to realize the density of 62,000 units mIl at the present
rate Of development. Mr. Oerzon said he wanted to "touch upon" the many com~
plaints thdt have come to his attention regarding the low water pressure in the
areas of Little Hickory: Bonita Springs: Palm River" etc., and explained that'this
situation has nothing to do with the "projected growth" in the subject location.
The basic problem, at this time, is that the City of Naples' water tank (whiCh
is located at Carrica Road and Pine Ridge Road) is not getting a sufficient
water supply to keep up with the demands of the area. However, there is, currently,
a 20 inch line being constructed along Airport Road which will connect into the'
main transmission line along Golden Gate Parkway and will feed directly into
the above-referenced tank and pumping station. Mr. Berzon stated the 20 inch
line is supposed to go into service before the end of next week. April 12, 1980.
Once the pipe goes in - there should be a substantial lessening of the low
water pressure problem in the North Naples area and additionally, he continued,
there are two minor construction matters, which the County is involved in, where
some loops have to be closed that were opened as the result of the Immokalee
Road construction and these, too, should be completed by the end of next week.
All these actions should relieve the water pressure situation in the area almost
immediately.
As to the "Man" Yer~ws "potential capacity" in the region of the avail-
ability of water/sewer facilities, Mr. Berzon ststed, he had taken figures from
the Planning Department; from the "ZOI" Study and also from the CH2M Hill Pro-
jections for the Water System and by using all such information. had been able
to develop a range of demands over the next ten years (from 1980 through 1990).
And if the two proposed projects, as listed below, are completed by the County
in the year 198Z, there would be no question but that the now-known demands
could be met together with the projections for the next ten years:
1. Construction of a 20 inch water line along SR 846 (Immokalee Road)
from Airport Road to U.S. 41
2. Construction of a 12 inch water line along Illth Avenue North from
U.S. 41 to Bluebill Avenue (Vanderbilt Towers)
Discussion followed which covered the responsibility of payment of the
proposed water lines; the number of approved dwelling units in the subject area
as being 460 by the end of the year 1981; definition of Phase One of the County
Water/Sewer System and Commissioner Archer's request that the Engineering

of repairing and improving the roads in the subject area which will result
