PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Jerald Christopher (JC) Jackson is a homegrown football champion, born
and raised in Collier County and a graduate of Immokalee High School
where he played football and was selected to play in the 2014 Under
Armour All-America game; and,
WHEREAS, JC began his college football years at the University of Florida before
transferring to the University of Maryland, starting 11 of 12 games as
a sophomore, making 40 tackles, an interception, and a team-high five
pass breakups; and,
WHEREAS, Big Ten coaches voted JC an honorable mention all-conference in 2017
after he started all 12 games posting 40 stops, three interceptions, and
seven pass breakups; and,
WHEREAS, during his impressive rookie season in the National Football League (NFL),
JC was a starting cornerback for the New England Patriots, contributing
greatly to that team's success and ultimate advancement as the Super
Bowl champions. All year, JC gave up only 31 catches and had the lowest
passer rating allowed when targeted out of all cornerbacks in the NFL.
JC made three interceptions during the year and was named New England
Patriots Rookie of the Year; and,
WHEREAS, in Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019, JC was part of the Patriots
defense that limited the Los Angeles Rams to just 229 passing yards
and no touchdowns in the New England Patriots 13-3 victory.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that April 9, 2019, be designated as
