Agenda 03/26/2019 Item # 3D103/26/2019
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Presentation of the February 2019 Employee of the Month, Mike Stone, Senior Field Inspector,
Growth Management Department.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant
contributions to the organization and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Mike has been with the County since 1999 and works in our Road Maintenance
Division. Mike has worn many hats in the Division, but no matter what position Mike is officially in, he
is always being called upon to provide his knowledge and experience, and he willingly steps up to assist
in whatever capacity is needed. Just recently he was called on to assume the responsibilities of
Supervisor of Road Maintenance, scheduling work and overseeing staff. All the while he continues to
mentor new staff and maintain his high-quality work in his current position of Senior Field Inspector.
This past inventory season, due to some staff transitions, Mike was called upon to act as our Warehouse
Manager to ensure that the Clerk's inventory was completed. Mike outlined and implemented the re-
organization of the warehouse. Time was of the essence and with Mike's "just get it done" approach, the
long-delayed implementation of the reorganization was completed prior to year-end inventory.
Although officially the Safety Coordinator for Road Maintenance from August 2004 until August 2017,
Mike still assists staff with any safety issues or concerns that arise. Mike works with staff and Risk
Management to ensure the safety of all employees, as well as making sure that the contractors are also in
compliance with safety regulations.
Mike has been instrumental in working with staff to write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) that are
practical, protect the employees, the public, and the organization. Mike has worked with Risk
Management, the County Attorney's Office (CAO) and internal staff to ensure that our Sidewalk Safety
Program is followed and updated to include new processes or requirements. Mike always offers his
assistance to others and is happy to share his knowledge and skills with anyone that needs support or a
helping hand. Mike is a true asset to Collier County, and very deserving of this award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award. Funds for
this are available in the employee's budget cost center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with
this Executive Summary.
