RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 259
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
COLLIER COUNTY DECLARING A PUBLIC PURPOSE FOR THE
SOLICITATION OF DONATIONS AND THE RECEIPT OF DONATIONS
TO CONSTRUCT A };'REEDOM MEMORIAL FOR COLLIER COUNTY
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ACTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS AT ITS REGULARLY SCHEDULED APRIL 26, 2005
MEETING,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County approved the design
and construction of a Freedom Memorial to honor America's servicemen and also those law
enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and civilians who perished
during the September 11,2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, United Airlines
Flight Nos. 175 and 93 and American Airlines Flight Nos. 77 and 11, and to acknowledge the
survivors of these horrific terrorist attacks, and to pay homage to all Americans who have
sacrificed for the defense of our nation, for peace and for freedom; and
WHEREAS, the Board authorized the payment of the cost of the design and site plan of
the Freedom Memorial to be made from County funds; and
WHEREAS, the Board further approved obtaining private donations for the actual
construction of the Freedom Memorial to be placed on County grounds approximately between
the Courthouse and adjacent to the current Building B, otherwise known as the Human
Resources Building.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby declares that
there is a public purpose both as to the solicitation of donations from the citizens of Collier
County for the construction of the Freedom Memorial and the receipt of such donations.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, this 281h day of June, 2005.
