PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Collier County is nationally recognized for its quality of life, outdoor
recreation opportunities, and unique natural resources; and,
WHEREAS, outdoor recreation promotes good health and helps residents and visitors
explore Florida's natural ecosystems, learn about new places, engage in
new experiences, and share in adventures that last a lifetime; and,
WHEREAS, outdoor recreation opportunities have a positive impact on Collier County's
economy; and,
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has designated
November as Florida Paddlesports Month and invites Florida's residents
and visitors to celebrate by exploring the more than 4,000 miles of
designated paddling trails throughout the state; and,
WHEREAS, paddlesports are a very popular outdoor activity in Collier County, leading
the Paradise Coast Blueway Committee, Friends of the Paradise Coast
Blueway, the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention 8r Visitors
Bureau, Florida Paddling Trails Association, Paradise Coast Paddlers Club,
and Collier County Parks and Recreation to host the first Collier County
Blueway Kayak Festival on November 18, 2018, to showcase paddlesports
opportunities in Collier County and to solicit community input on the
completion of the Paradise Coast Blueway Paddling Trail funded through
a Coastal Initiative Grant.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that November be recognized as
PADDLESPORTS MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 13th Day of November 2018.
