EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept funding from the Collier County Community Foundation in the amount
of $15,000 for playground equipment replacement at McCleod Park in Everglades City, execute the
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for playground improvements and resurface the tennis
and basketball courts at McCleod Park with estimated $15,000 from Parks Capital Fund (306),
and authorize any necessary Budget Amendments.
OBJECTIVE: To restore the playground equipment and tennis courts at McCleod Park in Everglades
City Park.
CONSIDERATIONS: As the original county seat, Everglades City holds a place of significance in our
county. The City reached out to the County Manager to request assistance to restore a swing set that was
damaged by Hurricane Irma. The County Manager agreed and tasked the Public Services Department
with finding funding.
The Community Foundation of Collier County and the United Way of Collier County have created the
Collier Comes Together Fund to assist with hurricane repairs. The Public Services Department Head
verbally requested $15,000 to replace playground equipment at McCleod Park in Everglades City, with
the County agreeing to pay any additional costs associated with the project. The Foundation granted the
request and mailed a granting letter and the check to the Parks & Recreation Division (Parks) on July 11,
2018. Parks reached out to OMB immediately to restore the grant process and ensure the Board of County
Commissioners (Board) has an opportunity to approve the request and the accept the funds.
The City later requested assistance resurfacing tennis courts, to which the County also agreed. The total
cost of replacing playground equipment and resurfacing the tennis and basketball courts is estimated at
$30,000. The balance of the project will be funded with Parks Capital Fund (306).
To execute this request, the County and the City drafted an MOU, detailing the project, responsibilities
and funding sources. It has been approved and signed by Everglades City Council and is being submitted
as part of this request to approve the grant and accept the funds.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost for the project is estimated at $30,000; $15,000 in Fund (709) Project
33583 for playground equipment funded by the Collier County Community Foundation Grant and
$15,000 in Parks Capital Fund (306) Project 80307 to resurface tennis and basketball courts.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management Plan related to
this action.
ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved
the project at their October 17, 2018 meeting.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This Item is approved for form and legality and requires a majority vote
for Board action. -JAB
