PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, motorcycle riding is a popular form of recreation and transportation for
thousands of people across the state and nation, and,
WHEREAS, the safety hazards created by motorcycle riding should be of great concern to
motorcycle riders as well as all other motor vehicle operators; and,
WHEREAS, American Bikers Aimed Towards Education known as ABATE with chapters all
over Florida and the 6ator Alley Chapter of ABATE of Florida, Inc, is Collier
County's largest Motorcycle Rights Organization; and,
WHEREAS, ABATE has two functions which are to promote motorcycle safety and work
closely with our Legislators to protect motorcycle rights; and,
WHEREAS, for the past two years, 6ator Alley Chapter of ABATE has been working with
the Collier County Public Schools to bring the 'Motorcycle Safety Awareness
Program" to several of the high schools along with being invited to present our
program to the National Drivers Edkication Convention, and
WHEREAS, the 6ator Alley Chapter currently has over 450 members and we represent a
true cross - section of Collier County as its members range from medical
professionals to small business owners to construction workers; and
WHEREAS, motor - vehicle drivers should expect to see motorcycles at all times and should
search aggressively for them; and
WHEREAS, motorcycle safety awareness promotion is a cooperative effort to decrease the
number of igjuries and fatalities associated with motorcycling.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that May 2010, be designated as
Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
