PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the 2010 Naples Relay for Life will take place at 6ulfview Middle
School, 255 6th Street South, Friday, April 16th at 4:00 p.m. through
Saturday, April 17Th, 10:00 a.m.; and
WHEREAS, the Relay starts with a Survivors Lap, an inspirational time when
survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone
celebrate the victories achieved over cancer; and
WHEREAS, the event also honors people who have been touched by cancer and
remembers loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaries Ceremony
held after dark at 9:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, with chartered divisions throughout the country and over 3, 400 local
offices, the American Cancer Society is committed to fighting cancer
through balanced programs of research, education, patient service,
advocacy, and rehabilitation, and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life - changing event
that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to
celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved
ones lost, and fight back against the disease, and
WHEREAS, donations made to the Relay for Life help support the American Cancer
Society fulfill its mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem
by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer
through research, education, advocacy, and service; and
WHEREAS, former Collier County Manager Jim Mudd is the 'Honorary Survivor
Chair" for the 2010 Relay for Life of Naples.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that April 16 and 17, 2010 be designated as
RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS
to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer; remember loved
ones lost to the disease; and fight back against a disease that takes too
much.
