The Collier County Health Department began respanding to the HJ NJ pandemic in late
April 2009 by tracking new infections and trying to limit the spread of infection: and.
the Health Department educated local health care providers, businesses, and the
community as to what respective actions they could take as information emerged about
the novel virus: and.
the Health Department orchestrated a mass vaccination plan as soon as the vaccine
became available and through January 24, 20JO, almost one-third of our community had
been vaccinated against this unpredictable and patentially fatal virus. Of the J 08,328
vaccines given through this date. the Health Department vaccinated 48,628 or nearly half

to accomplish this feat, the Health Department held 34 large vaccination clinics, seeing
over 2,000 people per day during peak demand. In addition, Health Department nurses
offered vaccines to all daycare and school age children by holding over 90 clinics onsite in
schools throughout our community: and,
a total of 28, J JO hours of staff and volunteer hours were labored to enact this mass
vaccination effort. In addition to the Health Department staff assistance was supplied
by many wonderful volunteers and Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services,
