WHEREAS, Juneteenth is a celebration of humanity and conveys the message
that freedom is the basic fundamental right of one and a / /,• and
WHEREAS, celebrated on June 19 as Freedom Day (or Emancipation Day), it
commemorates the declaration of abolishment of slavery in Texas
and has special significance for African Americans across the
United States; and
WHEREAS, the celebration will commence at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19,
2010 at Sugden Regional Park, 4284 Avalon Drive, Nap /es,
Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Col /ier County NAACP (National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People) Branch #5117 will be conducting
their Ir' annual Juneteenth Family Day Celebration, and
WHEREAS, this year's theme is "Embracing our Post, Empowering our Future"
and will be a family day and much more; and
WHEREAS, NAACP Branch x'5117 is progressive and committed to advocating
civil rights of a// individuals in the community with a vision to
educate, promote, and remember our history, and celebrate
diversity which brings us together as a community.
NOW THEREFORE, be It proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, that June 19, 2010 be designated as
Collier County's NAACP Branch #5117s 10 annual
AINETEENTH FAMILY DAY CELEBRATION
