WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance No. ?" -56 adopted by the Board of Count
Commissioners expanded the Waste Reduction Awards Program; and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi - family properties for enhances
and innovative recycling programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Naples Christian Academy foi
contributing to the greater good of Collier County by advocating the "Reduce, Reuse 017,0
Recycle" message to its students, staff, and parents thereby helping to prolong the usable life
of the Collier County Landfill, and,
WHEREAS, aspects of the school's waste reduction and recycling program include
• recycling cardboard, paper, clean plastics, clean juice packs, chip bags, and cookie wrappers.
• recycling enough material to move from three recycling containers to a 4 -cubic yard, single -
stream recycling dumpster.
• creating a 16reen Team" of middle school students who chose to lead the school recycling
rally.
• being the first school in Southwest Florida to participate in the Dream Machine Recycle Rally,
which aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling among students. Naples Christian
Academy currently ranks 13 of the 500 schools participating in the Dream Machine Recycle
Rally and collects 5W -700 bottles and cans a day.
WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, use of the WRAP logo, ana
space on the colliergov.net /recycles website showcasing its eco- friendly business practices ana
recycling program.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Solid Waste Management Department and the Board of
County Commissioners congratulate Trusha Garner, Director of Students dr Parent Services,
Barbara McWilliams, Art d Middle School Teacher, the 6reen TEAM, and all the students ana
staff of Naples Christian Academy for their continued efforts to promote waste reduction ana
recycling. The Academy promotes good stewardship of Florida's pristine environment and sets a
positive example for other schools in Collier County. Their initiatives will have a significant
effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting the
environment.
