EAC Minutes 09/19/2005 S September 19,2005 TRANSCRIPT OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COLLIER COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COUNCIL Naples, Florida, September 19, 2005 LET IT BE REMEMBERED, that the Environmental Advisory Council in and for the County of Collier, having conducted business herein, met on this date at 9:00 AM in SPECIAL SESSION in Building "F" of the Government Complex, East Naples, Florida, with the following members present: CHAIRMAN: William Hughes Terrence S. Dolan Lee Horn Judith Hushon (Excused) Irv Kraut Erica Lynne Nick Penniman (Excused) Michael V. September 19, 2005 I. Meeting was called to order by Chairman William Hughes at 9:01 AM. II. Roll Call Roll call was taken with Nick Penniman, and Judith Hushon being excused. III. New Business A. Presentations on "Reduction of Environmental Impact Relative to Construction Techniques" Roy Bonnell gave a Power Point Presentation (see attachment) including the following points: Erica Lynne joined the meeting at 9:02 AM. · Introduced himself. · Reviewed commencement of the Florida Green Building Coalition. · A goal is to achieve State Standards. · The program works through voluntary means with the use of incentives. · Standard Tiers- Green Home, Green Commercial, Green Local Government Dr. Jennifer L. Languell gave a Power Point Presentation (see attachment) including the following points: · Introduced herself. · Education of Public and Builders. . Reviewed examples of Green Building elements. · (Pictures Displayed) Questions addressed. IV. Council Member Comments Mr. Kraut noted poor building practices including improper installation of insulation. Mr. Hughes requested Mr. Bonnell and Dr. Languell to submit a written report as to what can be done within Collier County. He also requested for staffto create a report on storm water reclamation education and potential obstacles. Mr. Bonnell noted that a partnership has been formed between the Florida Community Loan Fund and the Enterprise Foundation to develop Green affordable housing for Florida. 2 September 19, 2005 A builder building to the Florida code would achieve about 175 points under the Green Building point system. Two hundred points are needed to achieve Green Home standard as noted by Dr. Languell. Mr. Lorenz suggested identification of areas this Committee would like to have improved in order to organize with other County Departments. A sub-committee could be developed to evaluated proposals for modification of the Growth Management Plan, these ideas could be incorporated. V. Public Comments Bob Krasowski is a member of Zero Waste Collier County Group. He supports recycling, and feels that it should be looked into further. He is very happy with the presentations given, and would like to say that people are listening. Dr. Lynne mentioned a web site where persons can post free items that would otherwise go to trash. Freecycle.org Arrangement will be made for a representative from Solid Waste Management to give a presentation, along with a representative from the Planning Department to address Ave Maria.
