Trish,
Please see the attached letter. It was drafted and sent per board direction at the last BCC meeting. As there was no formal
procedure regarding these letters, Ian and I decided to send copies to you and the BCC as well as add it to Miscellaneous
Correspondence. No action needed, just an FYI. Thanks!

Dear Commissioner Putnam:
I would like to congratulate you on your election as Commissioner of the Florida Department of
Agriculture and Consumer Services. I have no doubt that the people of Collier County and Florida will be
well served by having you in Tallahassee tirelessly working to protect consumers and support our vital
agriculture industry.
On behalf of the Board of Collier County Commissioners, I am writing to request your assistance
concerning the solicitation by ostensibly not - for - profit organizations on behalf of veterans.
Numerous questions have been raised by veterans and veteran organizations in Collier County
concerning the legitimacy of these solicitors who come here from other locations in Florida. Attempts by
the Collier County government and the Naples Daily News have failed to determine if the funds
collected are, in fact, being used for the intended purposes.
The organizations are registered with your office and we are requesting that an audit be performed to
determine how much money is being collected and how it is spent. The organizations in question are:
1. The Disabled Veteran's Foundation Corp., Plantation, FL
2. Veteran's Outreach, Inc., Bonita Springs, FL
3. The Veteran's Support Organization, Inc., Sunrise, FL
We hope you will assist us in assuring that funds collected on behalf of our veterans are being spent for
the benefit of veterans.
FWC /kjb
Sincerely,
Fred W. Coyle, Chairman
