PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the state of Florida is dedicated to improving air quality, improving health and
physical fitness, and reducing energy consumption, and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Board of County Commissioners, Collier County Department of
Alternative Transportation Modes, Collier County Smart Growth Coalition and
Naples Pathways Coalition through its cooperation with the Commuter Services
Program, contributes to these state goals by reducing traffic congestion and
lowering greenhouse gas emissions throughout Collier County, by promoting the use
of alternative commute modes, such as public transit, carpooling, vanpooling,
biking and walking; and,
WHEREAS, this joint effort with the Florida Department of Transportation, sponsors of the
Commuter Services program, has supported more commuters choosing to leave
their cars at home and use an alternate means to commute to work, and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Government and Commuter Services wishes to provide more
opportunities for commuters to find alternative travel options to meet these state
goals and to save money and reduce stress on individual commutes.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October 20, 2011 be designated as
COMMUTER SERVICES DAY
And hereby encourage all employees, residents, and visitors of Collier County to
consider and utilize alternatives to drive -alone commuting as participants in
Commuter Services Day. Please join us at the Collier County Main Government
Campus on this day to participate in alternative transportation mode activities,
educational forums and promotions, discover local resources and vendors, and
listen to speeches from elected officials and other local representatives.
