WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Number 2009 -56 established the Waste Reduction Awards Program (the
WRAP award), and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi-family residences for enhanced and innovative
recycling programs, and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize the Marco Beach Ocean Resort for contributing to
the greater good of Collier County by promoting the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" philosophy, thereby he /ping to
prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and
WHEREAS, the Marco Beach Ocean Resort was awarded a Green Lodging designation by the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection in 2010, and practices the following recycling and green initiatives
• Placing recycling containers throughout the 98 units, two offices, and at the beach area to encourage guests to
recycle newspaper, magazines, cardboard, ahminum cans, glass, and plastics.
• Purchasing preferences for recycled, remanufactured, enwronmentally sensitive products and services. Reducing
paper use by using its website for restaurant menus and event brochures.
• Requiring vendors to take back pallets; purchasing products in bulk and concentrate form; donating excess
toiletry items, linens, and furniture to local charities and shelters.
• An excellent training program for all administrative, resort, and housekeeping staff to sort, recycle and reduce
waste; and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, and space on the colhergov net /recycles
website to showcase its waste reduction practices green initiatives, and recycling programs, and
WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Management Department congratulates Jeffrey Bullock, Hotel Manager, Branka 6uberina,
Operations Manager, and a// the staff of Marco Beach Ocean Resort for their outstanding efforts to promote
waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and promoting environmental awareness. Marco Beach Ocean Resort sets a
positive example for others. Its green initiatives will have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of
the Collier County Landfill and protecting the environment.
