PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Number 2009-56, established the Waste Reduction Awards Program (the WRAP
award): and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi-family residences for enhanced and innovative recycling
programs: and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Whole Foods Market for contributing to the greater good of
Collier County by advocating the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" message to their customers, vendors, and staff thereby
helping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill: and,
WHEREAS, aspects of the Whole Foods Markets recycling, reuse, and source reduction program include:
· Implementing paperless palicy to reduce paper waste, using biodegradable supplies, buying 100 percent recycled paper
products, banning plastic grocery bags and encouraging the use of reusable bags by paying a ten-cent per reusable bag
refund to their customers in Florida.
· Providing all-natural fiber packaging made from renewable 1'Ut1UI'Ces such as sugar cane pulp, cornstarch, bamboo, that
are completely compostable, and fru from harmful chemkols.
· Providing recycling containers for gltISS, "..,., and plastic in dining areas, and in the store.
· Collecting batteries, ink-Jet cartridges, used cell phones, light bulbs and CottpIct Fluorescent Light (CFL) for recycling:
and backhauling recycltlblu litt. baled cardboord, office paper, and plastic #4 /..Dw Density Polyethylene (LDPE) stretch
plastic.
· Partnering with Cork Rehtlrvest to collect corks at wine events and bringing them back to regional distribution centers for
recycling, and educating the public about the importance of preserving and protecting the Mediterranean cork forests.

WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, and space DII the colliergov.net/recycles website
showcasing eco- friendly business practices and recycling programs: and,
WHEREAS, the Solid Waste MtInt1gement I>epartment congratulates Michael Muskat, StOfV Manager, Steve Kress, Assistant Store
Team Leader, Jesslell Vermes, Marketing Team Leader, Robin Murray, Jesslell Spnry, Green Mission team, and all the
staff of the Whole FDDds Market, for their outstanding efforts to promtlte waste reduction, reuse, and recycling,
promote environme11ftll lIWtIIWIUS, choosing renewllble and sustaintlble rest1U/"&U for building their stOfV, and setting a
positive example for othr fDDd stores. TheIr initiatives will have II significllnf effect on sustaining the usable life of the
Collier County Landfill and protecting the environment.
