PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the first Earth Day celebration was held on April 22, 1970, marking the beginning of the
modern environmental movement: and,
WHEREAS, Collier County recognizes the importance of protecting and preserving our natural resources,
and works to make the world a better place by adopting conscientious living habits that will
improve our daily lives and bring about a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment: and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of Collier County have the opportunity to join m1'llions of people around the world
in making a positive difference in reducing water and air pollution, conserving natural
resources, and saving energy by recycling and buying recycled products: and,
WHEREAS, the Public UtI1ities Divis/tHIs Pollution Control and Prevention Department and Water
Deportment strive to protect the safety, health, and welfare of the community and
environment through the protection of Collier Countys drinking water, groundwater,
freshwater, surface water, and other water resources from all sources of pollution: and
WHEREAS, the Public Utilities Divisions Solid Waste Management Department and Utility Billing and
Customer Service Department, under the direction of the Collier County Board of County
Commissioners, hove worked diligently to develop a multifaceted recycling program as a way to
preserve vallJQble landfill space and conserve natural resources.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that
April22, 2011, be designated as
EARTH DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12"' DAY OF April, 2011.
