EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to provide after the fact approval to designate the Sheriff as the official applicant
and point of contact for the U.S. Department of Justice, COPS School Violence Prevention Program
Grant (SVPP) FY2018. Authorize the acceptance of the grant when awarded, authorize associated
budget amendments and approve the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to receive and expend 2018
SVPP grant funds.
OBJECTIVE: To request after the fact approval from the Board of County Commissioner to designate
the Sheriff as the official applicant and point of contact for the U.S. Department of Justice, COPS School
Violence Prevention Program Grant (SVPP) FY2018. Authorize the acceptance of the grant when
awarded, approve associated budget amendments and approve the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to
receive and expend 2018 SVPP grant funds.
CONSIDERATION: The Sheriff’s Office has prepared a grant application requesting $490,991.96 to
design and implement and expand a school violence prevention program (SVPP) for 24 months.
FISCAL IMPACT: If awarded, the U.S. Department of Justice will provide $490,991.96 in SVPP grant
funds. CCSO will need to match 25% of project for a total of $163,663.98 from the Crime Prevention
Fund and Operating Budget (salaries and equipment).
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item was reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
GROWTH MANAGEMENT: There are no Growth Management Plan impacts resulting from this
grant.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners provides after the fact approval to
designate the Sheriff as the official applicant and point of contact for the U.S. Department of Justice,
COPS School Violence Prevention Program Grant (SVPP) FY2018. Authorize the acceptance of the grant
when awarded, approve associated budget amendments and approve the Collier County Sheriff’s Office
to receive and expend 2018 SVPP grant funds.
