Agenda 09/11/2018 Item #16D2209/11/2018
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to waive the fees for the Immokalee Commuter Bus Route on Saturday, October
6, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for the Immokalee Big Bus event sponsored by the
Department of Health in Immokalee, Florida.
OBJECTIVE: To promote health awareness and its link to public transit.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Department of Health (DOH) in Collier County will be hosting their annual
Immokalee Big Bus Event at the Collier Immokalee campus on Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 10:00
a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This free health fair and public awareness campaign is geared towards providing
opportunities for individuals and families to receive certain health services and information. Several big
buses will be on site to provide health services to those who visit. Some of the agencies providing buses
at the event will be:
Bureau of Emergency Management
Goodwill Industries
NCH Bloodmobile
Radiology Regional Mammogram Bus
Collier County Sheriff’s Office
Salvation Army
Harry Chapin Food Bank
Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
Along with the big buses will be other agencies providing free health services and information. Free adult
flu vaccines, health screenings, dental screenings for children, vision tests, bike inspections and repair,
child safety seat inspections, bike helmets, food, cell phone information, and family fun and exercise have
all been provided in the past.
In an effort to provide access for all residents in the community to this event and to raise awareness of the
health benefits to public transit, CAT would like to provide free rides for the routes in the community
during the event. Complimentary rides for this event will be a great opportunity to allow members of the
community to receive important health checks and information that can benefit the well-being of the
many adults and children who may not have proper wellness care.
FISCAL IMPACT: The anticipated collected revenue is approximately $200. However, the goodwill
and marketing could lead to increased ridership in the future by bringing in additional passengers who
may not normally use public transportation.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To waive fees on the Immokalee Circulator routes from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00
p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, for the Immokalee Big Bus Event.
