Cc: John Barbaro; Barbaro, Laura Subject: Beach Access Signage Along Vanderbilt Beach Dear Commissioners: thank you for being an ardent supporter of Beach Rights for all citizens and visitors who frequent Vanderbilt Beach. I have been a Collier County Tax Payer and Part Time resident of North Naples for 8 Years. My wife and I built our home in Naples Park for the access to Vanderbilt Beach and for the diversity within the neighborhood. I am writing to you to express my concern about the latest delay of installing Beach Access Signage along GulfShore Drive. As the recent Presidential reelection has shown gridlock is an unfortunate repercussion of politics, either on the national stage or at the county level. This being said, I am appalled at the amount of effort and time that is being wasted on an issue that we as taxpayers believe was resolved. Special interests with Georgia Hiller as their spokesperson should not have another vote or discussion to table an issue that already has been approved! Unfortunately, a large majority of the people who would like to voice their opinion on this matter do not have the time or the or have an understanding of how to speak out against this injustice. Public Beaches are for the benefit of all, not only for those whose condominiums or homes have Vanderbilt Beach as their backyard! Frankly, I am disgusted that with those who have the means and power to influence a politician for their own personal gain! As you take up this issue once again, I ask that each of you stand up for those who do not have a voice in this effort. Please resolve this issue which should be a non -issue once and for all! AhllZ Mary Lou Smart From: daniel lindley <lindley555 @hotmail.com> Sent: Monday, November 12, 2012 12:38 PM To: smartieml @earthlink.net Subject: Copy of beach sign letter to commissioners: I understand that you will be discussing, yet again, the installation of public beach access signs along Gulfshore Drive in north Naples at Tuesday's meeting. I hope that you will take swift action to make sure that county workers install these signs as soon as possible. As you know, the law requires these signs, as do the stipulations of a recent court settlement. It is ridiculous to stall the installation of these signs on the grounds that they are ugly or too big. They are the same size as other existing public road signs in the area, and they are much smaller than the large, garishly lettered signs that adorn the gates of many of the condo towers along Gulfshore Drive in north Naples. More important, these signs direct everyone , locals and visitors alike, to Collier County's most attractive and valuable asset, the Gulf beach. Since these rights of way have been well established in law, and since taxpayers pay for beach renourishment, the public deserves to know how and where to gain access to public property. What's more, the public no doubt will be called upon at some point to bail out the condo owners along the Gulf to save lives and property when their private property is damaged or destroyed by the inevitable big hurricane that will sooner or later sweep over our shores. The least the public should expect in return for this taxpayer - funded largesse is access to the beaches we own and enjoy. Again, I hope you will put this matter to rest at tomorrow's meeting so that these signs will be installed as soon as possible, and locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy access to the beautiful beaches here. Board of Collier County Commissioners meeting 11/13/2012 Good morning. I'd like to say, first of all, that we've all been very lucky to have a Commissioner like Jim Coletta looking out for the entire community for the past several years. I have come to know the concern that Jim Coletta has for Collier County's well -being by the way he has supported tourism and beach improvements, which are important to inland communities. Certainly, your legacy will not be one of obstructing the will of the people to gain favor with a few. At Vanderbilt Beach, we have several issues standing in limbo for years on end thanks to the people that live right at the beach and do not want improvements in basic things such as access signage or even a beach facility at our busiest beach. When it comes to beach signage along Gulfshore Drive, the lawsuit that was signed off in 2011 dates back years. Following the lawsuit, the signs were designed in 2011. I called Collier County Parks & Rec in February, and the image of the signs was emailed to me. Nobody was hiding any signs. In May, someone from the Vanderbilt MSTU — does this group have jurisdiction over signs? - said that the attractive signs were ugly, and complained about being left out of the years -long debate. Is it really possible that the people that complain about everything and try to micromanage every improvement that would benefit the beachgoing public did not have any opportunity to see the signs? How is this possible? So now it's back to the drawing board? We all know that no accommodation is going to be enough. Georgia Hiller wants them shorter and farther from the street... The NO PARKING ANYTIME signs are 7 feet tall on both sides of the street. The signs for beach access in the city of Naples are huge and informative. Along Bonita Beach, they're at least 12 feet tall. Along Vanderbilt Beach, they used to be teenie little decals in the bushes or on trash cans and now they are non - existent. Your largest economic driver is the beach ... Since the people working to stall this effort have zero concern for the economic well -being of Collier County regards to tourism, which bicycles and pedestrian traffic do promote, or of the people living beyond walking distance, the commissioners that look out for all of Collier County should put additional money into this project to fi op , equip the hard -won signage with permanent ink that will spray all over the next beachfront vandals so that their true colors can be seen by all. Attractive signage welcomes the community and promotes tourism, but a warm welcome is certainly not anything near what we're getting from Vanderbilt Beach, and certainly not something that ' r seem interested in either.
