WHEREAS, LIVESTRON6 was founded in 1997 on the belief that unity is strength, know/edge
is power and attitude is everything. Its programs, awareness events and advocacy
work are the heart of its mission and its leaders and donors provide both vision
and the support; and,
WHEREAS, the first LIVESTRON6 Day was held in 2004 to exemplify the spirit of people
affected by cancer - survivors, caregivers, friends, family physicians, nurses,
social workers and researchers; and,
WHEREAS, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States and Florida as
well as the leading cause of death in Collier County; and,
WHEREAS, the state of Florida and Collier County have concern and compassion for those
affected by cancer; and
WHEREAS, by uniting people affected by cancer to raise awareness through education,
prevention, screening and early detection efforts, we gain strength in the fight
against cancer in Florida; and
WHEREAS, LIVESTRON6 is committed to ensure all cancer patients are treated with
compassion and respect and are provided with the tools and resources necessary
to battle the physical, emotional and practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October 2, 2012 be designated as
"LIVESTRON6 DAY"IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25th Day of September 2012.
