PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Collier County Emergency Medical Services paramedics rapidly assess, manage and provide
pre-hospital care for victims of sudden life-threatening injuries and illnesses; and,
WHEREAS, the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CHAS) was established to
encourage and promote quality patient care in America's medical transportation system;
and,
WHEREAS, CAAS is an independent Commission that established a comprehensive series of standards
for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) industry; and,
WHEREAS, CAAS accreditation signifies that an agency's service has met the 'gold standard"
determined by the EMS industry to be essential in a modern emergency medical services
provider. These standards exceed those established by state or local regulation; and,
WHEREAS, the CAAS standards are designed to increase operational efficiency and clinical quality,
while decreasing risk and liability to the organization; and,
WHEREAS, the process includes a comprehensive self-assessment and an independent external review
of the EMS organization; and,
WHEREAS, there are in excess of 13,000 EMS providers in the United States, only 152 of them are
accredited; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County EMS is now one of only ten (10) accredited EMS departments in Florida.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that
COLLIER COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SERVICES
be recognized for its accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services for it
compliance with national standards of excellence.
