WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Number 2009 -56 established the Waste Reduction Awards
Program (the WRAP award); and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi - family residences for enhanced and
innovative recycling programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize NCH North Nap /es Hospital for
contributing to the greater good of Collier County by advocating the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" and
Green Hospital messages to their customers, vendors and staff, thereby he /ping to prolong the
usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and,
WHEREAS, the NCH recycling, reuse, and source reduction program includes:
• Placement of commingled recycling collection containers in a/l cafeteria food court areas, visitors
waiting lounge, nurses stations, break rooms, conference rooms, building maintenance areas, and
administration offices to co/ %t more recyclable materials.
• Placement of secured containers in all offices on every floor of the hospital to shred confidential
Papers and documents. The shredded paper is recycled and represents 75 percent of NCH's recycled
materials.
• Requiring vendors to take back pal lets. Placing a// hazardous materials, such as fluorescent bulbs,
rechargeable batteries and cell phones, and paint into secured containers for proper disposal. NCH
has a compactor for cardboard recyc ling and one 6 -cubic yard recyc ling commingled dumpster to
collect plastic, glass, and aluminum cons.
• Implementing a Green Team to promote waste reduction and recyc ling. NCH has recycled 500, 000
pounds in four months and the Green Team's goal for calendar year 2012 is to divert, reduce and
recycle 1 mil /ion pounds of materials.
WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy and space on the County's website
showcasing eco - friendly business practices and recyc ling programs, and,
NOW THEREFORE, the Solid Waste Management Department congratulates Michele Thoman, Chief Operating
Officer; Hill Madere, EVS Manager,, Brian P. Doyle, LEED 6A, Engineering Mechanic, the Green
Team volunteers and a// the staff of the NCH North Nap /es Hospital for their outstanding efforts
to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling, promote environmental awareness, choosing
renewable and sustainable resources for their hospital, and setting a positive example for other
hospitals. Their initiatives will have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier
County Landfill and protecting the environment.
