WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Number 2009 -56, established the Waste Reduction
Awards Program (the WRAP award); and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi - family residences for enhanced
and innovative recycling programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize 6olisano Children's Museum of Naples
for contributing to the greater good of Collier County by promoting their green policy and
advocating the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" message to their staff and visitors, thereby helping to
prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and,
WHEREAS, 6olisano Children's Museum of Naples' recycling, reuse and source reduction program includes:
• recycling all cardboard, paper, pallets, food service clamshells, aluminum, and plastic beverage
containers.
• reducing waste by providing reusable dishes, silverware, and cups for staff.
• placing trash and recycling containers side -by -side throughout the exhibit stations, outside play
areas, visitor activity areas, cafeteria, and classrooms.
• using building materials made from recyclable items, such as floor tiles made from plastic
bottles, insulation made from blue jeans, and countertops made from recycled glass.
• installing a rainwater catchment and cistern system used for flushing toilets and watering
landscaping; using wind turbine and solar panels to generate electricity and heating water; and,
installing a rooftop garden to insulate and buffer heat absorption.
WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, and space on the County's
website showcasing eco- friendly business practices and recycling programs; and
WHEREAS, the Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Department congratulates Ms. Karysia Demarest,
Managing Director, Ms. Beth Housewert, Curious Kids Coordinator, Mr. Dave 6rimard, Facility
Manager, and all the staff of 6olisano Children's Museum of Naples for their outstanding efforts
to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling, utilizing alternative energy sources, and setting
a positive example for other museum and recreation facilities. Their initiatives will have a
significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting the
environment.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that we
congratulate
SOLISANO CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF NAPLES
for their contributions and efforts in conserving energy, recycling, and waste reduction.
