WHEREAS, water is a basic and essential need of every living creature; and,
WHEREAS, the state of Florida,
working together to
conservation; and,
the Water Management Districts and Collier County are
increase awareness about the importance of water
WHEREAS, April, typically a dry month when water demands are highest, is annually
designated as Water Conservation Month to educate citizens about how they can
help save Florida's precious water resources; and,
WHEREAS, the state of Florida, together with local partners, is investing billions of dollars to
develop alternative water supplies; clean up stormwater pollution; restore river,
lakes and springs; upgrade drinking water facilities and improve wastewater
treatment; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County encourages and supports water conservation through various
educational programs, special events and, most importantly, by treating 91
percent of wastewater influent and distributing that 5.3 billion gallons of
reclaimed water for beneficial reuse as irrigation quality water; and,
WHEREAS, every business, industry, school and citizen can make a difference by efficiently
using water, thus promoting a health community and economy.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that April 2013 be designated as
WATER CONSERVATION MONTH
