YEREAS, local farmer and entrepreneur Frank Oakes was a pioneer in the art of organic
farming and living; and,
'!EREAS, Mr. Oakes, a second generation farmer, began his journey at an early age in his
father's roadside markets; and,
-IEREAS, after leaving the Army, he opened a small fruit stand in Fort Myers before
expanding his operation with the purchase of farm land in eastern Collier County;
and,
/EREAS, these efforts evolved into Oakes Farm, known for its tomatoes, kale and
strawberries, and the opening of the all organic Oakes Farm market and Food and
Thought store; and,
(EREAS, Mr. Oakes, who cultivated a strong following and lived by the motto "Don't worry
'bout nuttin' - everything's gonna be alright, "leaves behind his wife, two sons,
several grandchildren and count less others who served as patrons of his
businesses; and,
'EREAS, it is with sadness, but great pride that we remember Mr. Oakes for his true
commitment to healthy and organic living and honor the legacy left for the
residents of Collier County.
W THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that February 12, 2013 be designated as
FRANK OAKES DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
