EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Request that the Board of County Commissioners approves the transfer of
tangible personal property, purchased in FY 2010 to benefit the Collier
County Sheriff, to the custody of the Sheriff of Collier County.
OBJECTIVE: The Board of County Commissioners approves the transfer of
tangible personal property, purchased in Fiscal Year 2010 to benefit the
Collier County Sheriff, to the Sheriff's custody in compliance with the
requirements set forth under Florida law regarding the supervision and
control of property owned by local governments.
CONSIDERATIONS: F.S., Chapter 274, requires that a governmental unit
shall be responsible for the supervision and control of its fixtures and other
tangible personal property of a nonconsumable nature (property). The
Collier County Board of Commissioners (Board) is responsible for the proper
and prudent acquisition, utilization, transfer, and disposal of Collier County
property. Chapter 274.03, Florida Statutes, authorizes that in each county
the Sheriff shall be the custodian of the property of the office of sheriff.
Between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010, the Board purchased
equipment to benefit law enforcement operations and prisoner services.
Property with an acquisition value of at least $1000 and a useful life of one
year or more was capitalized and assigned asset numbers.
Attached is an Exhibit listing the FY 2010 capital assets that have been under
the care and control of the office of the sheriff since property acquisition.
The total value of the assets is $7,155.01. To comply with Florida Statutes,
the transfer of custody to the Sheriff of the capital assets listed in the
attached Exhibit must be approved by the Board.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this action.
RECOMMENDATION: The Board of County Commissioners approves the
transfer of tangible personal property, purchased in FY 2010 to benefit the
Collier County Sheriff and described in the attached Exhibit, to the custody of
the Sheriff.
