EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept the report on the status of cable television and internet services
competition within Collier County.
OBJECTIVE: To provide the Board of County Commissioners (Board) a report on the status of cable
television and internet services competition within Collier County.
CONSIDERATIONS: During the June 8, 2010 Board meeting, the Board directed staff to assess the
cable television industry and report on options that may be available to the citizens of Collier County,
pertaining to bringing competition to the cable television and internet services market. Since that date,
staff has met with a number of local and national cable television and internet service providers and is
prepared to report the findings.
Staff has found active cable television and internet service competition within Collier County from the
following providers:
1. Century Link
a. Television, telephone, Hi -speed internet, and DirecTV re -sales in those areas that television
services are not available.
2. Comcast
a. Television, telephone, and Hi -speed internet.
3. Marco Island Cable
a. Television and Hi -speed internet.
4. NuVu
a. Television and Hi -speed internet.
5. DirecTV (Corporate and re- seller)
a. Television only
6. Dish Network
a. Television
Representatives of the following companies have been invited to answer any questions that the Board may
have pertaining to the services offered by their company.
1. Century Link
2. Comcast
3. Marco Island Cable Company
4. NuVu
5. U.S. Metropolitan Telecom, LLC
FISCAL IMPACT: There are no fiscal impacts.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no growth management impacts.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This executive summary has been reviewed by the County Attorney's
Office and there are no legal issues related to this item. RNZ
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners accept the report on the status of
cable television and internet services competition within Collier County.
