EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve and authorize the execution of the attached grant
agreement with the Florida Airports Council (FAC) in the amount $3,500, and
approve all necessary budget amendments for a 2010 summer internship
program for the Collier County Airport Authority.
OBJECTIVE: That the BCC accept a grant offer from the Florida Airports Council
(FAC) in the amount of $3,500, approve all necessary budget amendments, and
authorize its Chairman to execute said grant agreement for a 2010 summer internship
program for the Collier County Airport Authority.
CONSIDERATIONS: The purpose of this FAC grant is to provide interns with
advanced, practical working knowledge and awareness of airport management issues
and direct operational experience with the management of publicly owned, public use
general aviation airports while providing the Airport Authority with the skilled resources
and knowledge of collegiate level students engaged in aviation management related
studies.
Grant funds may be used to provide wages, living assistance and/or transportation
expenses for the intern. The Airport Authority will coordinate with Collier County Human
Resources to ensure compliance with County policy and procedures.
This grant does not require matching funds.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment will be necessary to increase grant proceeds
in Fund 498.
lEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the
County Attorney's Office and is legally sufficient-JBW
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners accept a grant offer
from the Florida Airports Council (FAC) in the amount of $3,500, approve all necessary
budget amendments, and authorize its Chairman to execute said grant agreement to
provide wages, living assistance and/or transportation expenses for a 2010 summer
internship program for the Collier County Airport Authority.

INTERNSHIP GRANT AGREEMENT
FOR THE
COLLIER COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY

This Internship Grant Agreement (Agreement) is entered into between the Parties, consisting of the
Florida Airports Council (the Council), 250 John Knox Road, Suite 2, Tallahassee, FL 32303 and the
Collier County Airport Authority (the Recipient).
Recitals
The Council awards Internship Grants to FAC member airports to help provide work experience for
students interested in pursuing careers in airport management and to provide a talented workforce ior
Florida's airports, Grants are awarded to airports that demonstrate a willingness to employ and supervise
an Intern M well as dc-rnonstrate the need for financial ,",sisltmee.
To quality for this grant. the Intern must be attending, or recently (wi/hin 011< year) graduated fTom. c
college or university with an emphasis on airport/aviation managcr1tcnt, operations~ or a closely-related
field and unrelated to any member of the airport management or authoril)'. Exceptions to this policy may
he made. from time to time. at the discretion oflhc Council, Selections are made on a. non.discrirninatory
basis.
1. nutie" of lbe Council
The Council agrees to provide a grant in the amount of S3~'iOO to Recipient to employ an Intern in the
summer of2()1O at one or more of the airports operated by the Recipient. Tbis grant shall be used to pay
the intern's salary, and/or to assist \ltith housing, and/or transportation expenses during the imemship
period. The grant will be issued to the Recipient and not directly to the Intern. The Intern is not an
employcc of the Florida Airports Council and tbe Council is not responsible for super..,sion of the Imern,
2. Duties of Reci[lient
The Recipient agrees that in addition to providing staff assLl)tam::c for the airport, the purpose of the b'Tant
is to provide un.the-job experience for the Intern. The Re.cipient is responsible for providing direct
supervision of the Intem at all times.

This report shall be provided to the Council no later than 30 days after the internship has been completed.
The Recipient must require the Intern to write a paper at the end of the internship period, detailing, as a
minimum, work assigned, work accomplisbed, and any recommendations on how to improve the program
in the future. A copy of this paper shall he provided to the Council no later than 30 da)'S after the
internship has been completed.
3. Distribution ofGl"1Iut Funds
One Thousand Dollars ($1.000) will be awarded after execution of the Ab"""ment and after notification
by Recipient that the student has officially started the internship. The remainder of the grant w ill be
awarded upon completion of the internship period and submittal of the required reports b)' the Recipient
and the Intern. If the Recipient does not expend the entire amount of the approved grant. the appropriate
reduction will be made by the Council to the final grant dislribUli on.
