PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS. Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neuralogical movement
disorder of the central nervous system, which has a unique
impact an each patient; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Parkinson's Action Network, Parkinsan's
Foundation~ the National Parkinson's Foundation, the American
Parkinson s Disease Association, and the National Institutes of
Health. there are approximately 1.5 million people in the United
States diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease,' and,
WHEREAS, symptoms include slowness, tremor. difficulty with balance and
speaking, rigidity, cognitive and memory problems; and,
WHEREAS, although new medicines and therapies may enhance life for some
time for people with Parkinson's Disease, more work is needed
for a cure; and,
WHEREAS, increased education and ruearch are needed to help find more
effective treatments with less side effects and ultimately a cure
for Parkinson's Disease,' and,
WHEREAS, a multidisciplinary approach to Parkinson's Disease care includes
local Weliness, Suppart, and Caregiver Groups; ancf
WHEREAS, April has been proclaimed as World Wide Parkinson's Awareness
Month for all to recognize the need for more research and help
in dealing with the devastating effects of Parkinson's Disease.
NOW THEREFORE, be it prociaimed by the Board of County Commissioners af
Collier Caunty, Florida, that April. 2010 be duignated as
PARKINSON'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 13th Day of April, 2010.
