Agenda 03/23/2010 Item # 5A Agenda Item No, 5A March 23, 2010 Page 1 of 2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to recognize Samantha Moran, Training Coordinator, Human Resources Department as the Employee of the Month for March 2010. OBJECTIVE: To recognize Samantha Moran, Training Coordinator, as the Employee of the Month for March 2010. CONSIDERATIONS: Samantha Moran, Training Coordinator, has been nominated as the "Employee of the Month" for March 2010. Sam, an employee of the County for almost five years, works in the Human Resources Department. As the Training Coordinator, Sam goes above and beyond to make the employee's training experience positive. She strives to offer new and varied training classes to enhance our employee's skills and knowledge. One of the courses that Sam leads several times throughout the year is the ICMA Supervisory Training Course. Through this ten week course she has successfully mentored over 70 employees. The course covers all aspects of supervision and teaches skills that supervisors need to deal with new trends in local government. Sam strives to engage each participant in the learning material and reinforce each lesson with practical examples. She leads her classes with confidence and enthusiasm and inspires them to incorporate the policies and procedures into their workplace. Feedback from her participants is overwhelmingly positive and she continues to be the go-to person for them and many others. She is always available to offer advice, innovative ideas and creative solutions to problems. In addition, Sam has taken on many projects and tasks beyond her normal work responsibilities. These include taking on computer technology training and supporting the Employee Recognition Program on events like the Employee Art Competition. She also volunteered to administer the Go Sign Me Up training registration system and is an active member of the Center for Business Process Excellence team. Sam is highly regarded and respected as a leader and a Human Resources professional. The County is fortunate to have such a dedicated employee. She is truly deserving of this award. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item presents no legal issues. - JAK FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award. Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this Executive Summary. RECOMMENDATION: To approve the recognition of Samantha Moran as the "Employee of the Month" for March 2010.
