Vanderbilt CC Speaking Engagement Thursday, January 14th
Commissioner Fiala..The Vanderbilt Country Clubs Right Angle Men's Club is very excited to have
you as our Thursday, January 14th luncheon speaker. We all know that you are quite busy at this
time and really appreciate your taking the time out of that busy schedule to join us for lunch and share
with us some of the important issues and challenges facing Collier County today and into the future,
not just in our District ,but across the entire county. Clearly, whats happening within our neighboring
counties, the State of Florida, and at the Federal level, impacts us and I'm sure our group would be
interested in your perspective on these external impacts, as well, to the extent you can comment.
I sent the following notice to our members a week ago and we should have 75-80 of our members at
the luncheon to hear your comments which is a very good tumout with about 100 active members.
When we get together at lunch you can prep me with where you intend to focus your remarks and I
will include that in my welcoming introduction.
We will be set-up for a PowerPoint presentation if you choose it. We also have a podium with mike
and the ability for you to move about if that's your preference.
Finally, like many Naples area Country Clubs, our demographic is approximately 95% Florida
residents, with 75% here 7-8 months/year on average so we have a strong interest in our local
government. The following is the note I sent to our members:
" Right Anglers....I'm very pleased to announce that our Thursday, January 14th luncheon speaker
will be District 1 Commissioner, Ms. Donna Fiala. On relatively short notice, Donna has agreed to sub
for Jim Coletta who has been called out of town unexpectedly. Donna has quite a diverse background
and a ton of local civic involvement in a leadership capacity prior to her deciding to run and being
elected as Commissioner, District 1, in the year 2000. She ran unopposed in 2004 for re-election. In
2003 she served as Vice-Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners and served as the Boards
liaison to the County Government Productivity Committee. In 2004 she served as Chairman of the
Board and the Tourist Development Council.
Donna has been conditioned to accepting challenges and following thru on her commitments and
looks forward to bringing our group up to speed on all the current and important issues facing Collier
County. She also wants to answer all our questions, time permitting. Several of you have sent me
good questions for Commissioner Fiala to respond to and/or comment upon I have forwarded them to
her office and she will incorporate them into her presentation or handle during the Q & A. More are
welcome, so please them to me.
Per usual, please advise if you are planning to attend and/or are bringing a guest/prospective
member. We have just elected a new Right Angle BOD for 2010 and we will be requesting your input
again relative to our speaking line-up for the months and years ahead. We have the AD from Florida
Gulf Coast University scheduled for our Feb 18th meeting and they are definitely a program on the
move with a huge upward potential and it should be interesting hearing the inside story.
Look forward to seeing you next Thursday and please let me know if you are planning to attend as
soon as you can"...Thanks, Bill Cooper
