WHEREAS, the future population ond consumptive markets in southern Florida, the changing
tratk potterns, odvr1ncements in manufocturing, the desire to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and dependency on foreign oil all make the opportunity of a South
Florida In_dal Logistics Center (SF11.C) an attractive economic tkvelopment
to the south Florida region, which is tkfined as South West Flarida, South
Central Flarida and South East Flaritla; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature in adapting 2009 LEGISLA Tl/RE APPROPRIA 7IONS BILL S8
2600, nFM 2005 specified that 'from funds in Specific Appropriation 2005,
$1, 000, 000 shall be provitkd for the costs associated with the implementotion of
a SFILC that will serve South West, South Central and South East Florida: and,
WHEREAS, the Florida Chamber Foundation, in conjunction with the Florida Deportment of
Transportation, is undertaking a Freight and Tratk study that will identify
critiCt11 information for locating the in_dal logistics facilities and outline the
opportunities and benefits ta the entire Stote of Florida of a Ct1mprehensive
supply chain infrastructure master plan, of which the SF11.C will be an integral
port: and,
WHEREAS, the eCfJfl()mic benefits for the entire south Florida Rsgion Ct1n be tktermined as
port of a State plan as the project is conceived and 10000ted ta maximize the
project's success and creating benefits for all of South West Florida: and,
WHEREAS, the implementation af the SF11.C will be compatible with the environmental
principles of the Stote and Region, and tkvelopmtmt must occur in Ct1njunction
with accepted growth management and entitlement principles and be porticularly
sensitive to the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA): and,
WHEREAS, the implementation of the SF11.C will provitk economic diversifiCt1tion and job
creation benefits far the entire South Florida Region; implementotion should be
conducted in a way that maximizes the proximity to the labor pool in the Region,
promoting economic diversifiCt1tian and smart growth for the Region over the next
dect1des.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Callier County,
Florida, that the SF11.C should be conceived and implemented to address the
prevailing and future economic, employment, environmentol and financial
considerations ta maximize the benefits for the Region.
