EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
COMMISSIONERS REQUEST FOR BOARD APPROVAL TO ATTEND A
FUNCTION SERVING A VALID PUBLIC PURPOSE
OBJECTIVE: For the Board of County Commissioners to declare a valid public
purpose for Commissioner /Commissioners to attend a function/event and approve
payment by the Clerk of any associated expenditures.
CONSIDERATIONS: Pursuant to Resolution No. 99 -410, the Board of County
Commissioners has detennined that attendance at the functions of fraternal, business,
environmental, educational, charitable, social, professional, trade, homeowners, ethnic,
and civic association/organizations serves a valid public purpose, provided that said
functions reasonably relate to Collier County matters.
FUNCTION/EVENT: FAC Legislative Day. Each year during the height of the
Legislative Session, FAC hosts our legislative day. Commissioners and staff are
encouraged to come to Tallahassee to assist in the lobbying efforts to protect home rule
and prevent unfunded mandates. The day begins with an update on what is happening
with the legislative session and the afternoon is spent lobbying local delegations.
PUBLIC PURPOSE: Meet and interact with legislative, business and community
leaders.
DATE OF FUNCTION/EVENT: January 31, to February 2, 2012
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners declares the
attendance by Commissioner(s) and staff at FAC Legislative Day to be a valid public
purpose and approves payment by the Clerk for submitted expenses incurred in attending
this event.

Florida Association of Counties organizes a Legislative Day during the legislative session each year for county officials
to obtain up -to -date information on legislative issues affecting counties. The day also provides an opportunity to meet
with members of your legislative delegation to discuss FAC's legislative priorities and specific concerns from your ar-
ea. An evening reception is also held honoring the Florida Legislature.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1
8:00 a.m. SHUTTLES BEGIN PICK -UP
Shuttles will pick -up at the two downtown hotels (Aloft and Courtyard Marriott).
8:15 a.m. — 9:00 a.m. REGISTRATION & CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST
FSU Turnbull Conference Center, 555 West Pensacola Street
Limited parking is available in the Conference Center garage free of charge.
You may also park at the Civic Center for $6 per day.
9:00 a.m. —11:30 a.m. LEGISLATIVE BRIEFING
Attendees will be briefed on the latest legislative activities and issues of importance
to county government.
11:30 a.m. —12:30 p.m. SHUTTLES DEPART THE FSU CONFERENCE CENTER
Shuttles will take attendees to the Capitol and the two downtown hotels
(Aloft and Courtyard Marriott).
12:30 p.m. — 5:00 p.m. MEETINGS WITH LEGISLATORS
Please schedule appointments with your local legislators prior to arriving in Tallahassee.
