EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept a wildlife crossing constructed within County Road 846 ( Immokalee Road)
right-of-way east of Immokalee and the conveyance of additional lands required for the crossing.
OBJECTIVE: To accept a wildlife crossing and the conveyance of lands beyond the existing Immokalee Road
(C.R. 846) right -of -way utilized for the crossing.
CONSIDERATIONS: Citygate Development, LLC, as mitigation for its business park near the intersection of
Collier Boulevard and I -75, constructed a wildlife crossing east of Immokalee on County Road 846 at a cost of
approximately $1.3m. This crossing is located in an area of high panther activity and strategic importance to Florida
panther conservation. Two photographs of the crossing are attached. Apart from the obvious environmental benefit,
the crossing also benefits the County in that, as and when this road is improved at some time in the firture, wildlife
crossings will be required as a condition for the grant of an environmental permit. The County will be maintaining
the wildlife crossing because it is in the County right -of -way and an integral part of the roadway. As a result of
modifications requested by the County to facilitate maintenance, a portion of the south slope of the crossing
encroaches on private property. Barron Collier Investments, Ltd., the owner of the property, is willing to convey the
lands encroached upon to the County without compensation.
FISCAL IMPACT: The wildlife crossing was constructed at a cost of approximately $1.3m and has a life
expectancy of 50 years. It will require routine maintenance and minor repairs from time to time at an annual cost of
approximately $8,000. Funds are available in Transportation Services Fund 101. Fees to'record the deed in the
Public Records will be paid by developer.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: This acquisition is consistent with the Collier County Growth
Management Plan.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is legally sufficient and requires a majority vote for Board action. —

RECOIIl TION: That the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida:
1. Accept the obligation to maintain a wildlife crossing constructed within County Road 846 right -of -way east
of Immokalee; and
2. Accept the conveyance of the additional lands required for the crossing as described in the attached deed.
