Respire these changes to the County 's ordinances, there remains some concern among the public
that unscrupulous groups posing as veterans may still be operating within Collier County. In
order for the public to make an educated decision when approached by one ofthese groups, I am
asking that the Board direct the County Manager to work with the County Al W bring back
to a future Board meeting an amendment to the County 's Solicitation Ordinance to require those
organization'
covered by the Florida Solicitation of Contributions Act to properly identify
themselves when soliciting within Collier County. This identification would include a sign that
would properly identify the name, principle address and telephone number of the soliciting
organization, as well as some form of personal identification which identifies the particular
solicitor as representing that group. Since the issue we are dealing with involves professional
solicitors, the ordinance amendment would be limited to only those required to register with the
Stale under the Florida Solicitation of Contributions Act. Additionally, l am proposing that these
solicitors be required to register with the County, whenever they intend to solicit here and to be
former required to produce a letter firm the business establishment granting Mem permission In
solicit at their business locatim(s).
Lastly, 1 am concerned that certain Veteran Solicitor Organizations that have recently solicited
^ money in Collier County may not be utilizing the funds garnered from Collier County residents
for the purposes that were stated. Accordingly, I am asking the Board to direct the County
Manager to prepare a letter to the State, to be signed by the Chairman, requesting that the State
audit those Veteran Solicitor Organizations which have done business in Collier County since
2010.
