Call to Order: Chairman Tuffcalled the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. I Establish a Quorum A quorum was established, with all Advisory Board members present. III. Approval ofAgenda Ms. Zenli enlered a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Arthur seconded the motion. All were infwor. The motion was carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Mr. Bretzmann entered a motion to approve the January 3, 2018 meeting minutes. Mr. Arthur seconded the motion. All were infavor. The motion was carried. V. Public Comment No members of the public were present at the meeting. VI. Old Business a. Community Garden: Ms. Wilson reported that a re-grand opening ceremony will be held on March 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Guest speakers from IFAS will be on hand, witi several activities planned for the event. Garden plots will be sold to the public at that time. b. Playground: Inspections of the playground site are presently underway. Installation is expected to commence shortly, with anticipated completion in six weeks' time. Interactive stations are planned, including two sizes of slides. Mulch will installed and will be handicap accessible. Some play units previously thought to remain have all been removed. c. Community Center Building Update: Maintenance work in the building had slowed somewhat due to PM injury and illness, howeveq continues to move forward. Scheduled work includes cleaning of the air vents, updating oflights to LED, and plastic panels possibly being added to the doors to prevent scratches and chips of the fieshly painted surfaces. Mr. Ray Coriano was commended for doing an excellent job in ensuring cleanliness and order in the building. VII. New Business: a. Naples BMX will be hosting the SSA Florida Cup Series Qualifiers 9 and 10 February 9- I I , 201 8 at the Wheels BlvD( track, with an estimated 500-600 participants expected. Rental of the the facility for this event will reap approximately $2K for the Community Center. Community Center Stalf has been working closely with several members of the Sherifls Office and Police Athletic League in response to recent incidents of adolescents fighting on the property. Increased Deputy and Park's Staffpresence has been implemented in an attempt to deter continued activity. c. Special Events Coordinators at the Community Center are working with Nana's Diner to reinstitute the "Taste ofthe Gate" food even! as well as the Golden Gate parade. A planning committee has been formed, with "Tia' of Nana's Diner coordinating participation by local eateries, currently planned for October 2019. The event will include a camival, which is anticipated to be combined with the annual fall camival. Ms. Tuff suggested that rather than the previous Westem theme, a Cinco de Mayo parade may be more successful, based upon current community demographics. d. Ms. Wilson reported she will be on vacation through February 26, 2018 and questioned whether the Board still wished to meet on March 5, 2018 as scheduled. It was the general consensus ofthe Board that meetings not be cancelled unless absolutely necessary. Mr. Ray Coriano will be acting supervisor during Ms. Wilson's absence. e. Community Center Programming: Ms. Wilson reported on several successful programs, including Studio Players productions, after school and VPK, judo, and bone builders classes. Other programs are less successful, including dance, karate, and Znmba. Various reasons for low attendance were discussed, including associated expenses related to dance costumes, as well as the availability of similar classes outside of the community center offered at a lessor cost or fiee ofcharge. f. Ms. Wilson reported that a Senior Expo is being held on February 21, 2018, .vu.tth 42+ vendors in attendance. Ms. Zenti offered to distribute fliers prior to the event at an upcoming Pars Community meeting. Member Comments Ms. Zenti expressed a desire to initiate golf camps at the local Golden Gate Golf Course, especially in view of the recent behavioral issues ocurring at the Community Center. Ms. Wilson mentioned a possible financial contribution by the Kiwanis Club and Collier Sheriffs Office. Ms. Zenti will provide Ms. Wilson the names of the golf pros at the local course. Ms. Tuffinquired as to whether there are particular classes the Community Center may offer which may be of interest to the Pars community residents. Ms. Zenti stated that while many activities were presently offered at the Pars community to residents, management changes were underway, which may facilitate a greater pursuit of interests outside of the community. Ms. Zenti inquired as to the facility's doors being locked during business hours. Ms. Wilson stated that the doors fi.rthest from the main entrance are locked after I :00 p.m. for security purposes; however, the emergency doors are able to be opened from the inside. The motion was seconded by Mr. A(hur. All were in favor.
