PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on August 14, 1945, the people of the United States received word of the end of World War II
and on that day People in the United States and around the world greeted the news of the Allies'
noble victory with joyous celebration, humility, and spiritual reflection; and
WHEREAS, we pay tribute to al/ the remarkable citizens who bravely served our country /n that time of peril
as they fought fearlessly to defend our freedoms, ensure our continued safety, and promote
liberty and democracy; and,
WHEREAS, while no words are fully adequate to express our gratitude or repay the debt we owe them,
Collier County is proud to join in this celebration so aptly named 'Keep The Spirit of 45' Alive"
celebrating the men and women who took incredible risks to protect our nation and way of fife;
and,
WHEREAS, August 14, 1945, marked not only the end of the war, but a /so the beginning of an
unprecedented era of rebuilding in which the United States led the effort to restore the
shattered nations of the Allies and their enemies alike and to create institutions to work towards
a more peaceful global community and which helped to strengthen American democracy by
promoting civic engagement, va/unteerism, and service to community and country, and,
WHEREAS, the courage, dedication, self sacrifice, and compassion of the World War II generation is alive
today and evident in the United States Armed Forces, including the men and women currently in
service in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world, and,
"HEREAS, in Collier County to celebrate the 'Spirit of 45" two days of events have been or with the
generosity of local sponsors to take place Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14 giving
everyone the opportunity to join and show gratitude that have been called 'America's Greatest
and Bravest Generation"
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that
August 13 and 14, 2011 be designated as
SPIRIT OF 45" DAYS IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 26th Day of Tuly, 2011.
