Agenda 06/28/2011 Item #9C 6/28/2011 Item g.C. EXECUTIVE SUMMAnV Recommendation to approve a Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, eucouraging the Department of Defense, Congress and the President to intervene to ensure fair reimbursement rates to medical providers through the TRICARE system and quality bealth care to our deserving active and retired military personnel. OBJECTIVE: For the Collier County Board of County Commissioners to review and approve the attached Resolution, which encourages fair reimbursement rates to medical providers through the TRICARE system and quality health care to our deserving active and retired military personnel. CONSIDERA nONS: TRICARE is the health care program serving uniformed service members, retirees and their families. TRICARE partners with regional contractors in the U.S., including Humana Military Healthcare Services for Florida and the south region, to provide healthcare services and support to beneficiaries. It serves approximately 9.6 million beneficiaries worldwide including thousands of active and military personnel and their families who live in Collier County and Southwest Florida. ,-" Many healthcare providers have withdrawn from the TRICARE system due to the low reimbursement rates. These low reimbursement rates place an undue burden on military families and retirees in our community. The men and women who have served in the U.S. Arnled Forces and are currently serving our country do so with the understanding that their government and fellow citizens will provide to them low cost, high quality and accessible healthcare. The Department of Defense, Congress and the President need to intervene to ensure fair reimbursement rates to medical providers through the TRICARE system and quality health care to our deserving active and retired military personnel. COMMISSIONER: Fred Coyle FISCAL IMPACT: NONE LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item raises no legal issues and requires only a majority vote for approval. RECOMMENDA nON: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the Resolution encouraging the Department of Defense, Congress and the President to intervene to ensure fair reimbursement rates to medical providers through the TRICARE system and quality health care to our deserving active and retired military personnel.
