Fire Code Interpreter:
Walter Kissel advised that it would probably be quite
beneficial for the fire service to have a representative at
the Development Center Committee meetings since they will be
updating the fire codes. They meet the 1st Wednesday of
every month.
Enabling Act:
Chief Jones advised that he had met with the Special
District Association lobbyists in Tallahassee. Fred Jones,
Chairman of the Department of Community Affairs, wants to do
away with all special districts. His proposed bill will
probably not be introduced in the House this year. Chief
Jones passed out a copy of Senator Dudley' s proposed bill
which he feels would benefit the special districts more than
the Representative 's proposed bill . League of Cities does
not agree with Senator Dudley's bill.
District One:
Jay Reardon advised that they are going to try to increase
the frequency of payments. He is trying to arrange for 50%
payment in April and the remaining half in two additional
payments during the remainder of the year. He did advise
that if three payments are made instead of two, it may end
up in the County Attorney's office because of word changes
being made to the contract. The consensus was to stay with
the same contract as last year and if changes are to be
made, make them in next years.
Correspondence:
Concept Paper:
The Chairman stated that he felt it was important for the
fire departments to start working on the concept paper again
and had sent copies of this document to all fire
departments. Marco Island Fire Department has two new
Commissioners who have not had the benefit of knowing all of
the background work and reasons for this concept paper.
Walter Kissel and Herb luntz offered to go to Marco Island
Fire Commission meeting to help with making their
Commissioners understand why this concept paper is important
and that no one would be loosing their independence. Ray
DeLuna would like to see a streamlined version of this
document. Chief Martin stated that his department would
