Fire Service Steering Committee Minutes 07/09/1990 III HURRICANE AWARENESS MEETING July 9 , 1990 7 : 30 p.m. East Naples Fire Department Davis Blvd. NOTE: YOUR ONLY NOTICE OF NEXT MEETING: FIRE SERVICES STEERING COMMITTEE MARRIOTT ' S MARCO ISLAND RESORT Key West Room July 24 , 1990 7 : 30 p.m. MINU I'ES HURRICANE PRESENTATION STEERING COMMTITEE JULY 9, 1990 In attendance for the presentation given by Gary Arnold of Emergency Management, were Chief Doerr, East Naples Fire Commissioners Greg Speers, Thomas Cannon, and Herb Luntz, Chief Martin, Asst. Chief Schank, Captain Davis, Captain Potteiger, Lt. Steve Jenks, Lt. Escarra, Lt. Gibbons, Inspector Griffin, Chief Hatcher, Asst. Chief Peterson, Golden Gate Fire Commissioner Marvin Steffen, Chief Jim Jones, North Naples Fire Commissioner Walter Kissel, Asst. Chief Macgrath, Marco Island Fire Commissioner Mark Coleman, Ken Pineau of Emergency Management, and Secretary/Receptionist Jean Davey. A long discussion ensued with regard to each of the following: - Evacuation routes and surge areas. Towers for communication rating will not resist winds. - Hurricane Hugo Major damage as a result of this storm was compared to what could happen in the Naples area. - Communications Center Collier County Courthouse and mobile radios. - Damage after storm. - National guard, FEMA, and personnel. - Post Hurricane Stress - Hurricane meeting held earlier today. Discussed plans for hurricane, damage and evacuation for Collier County and city. - Sanitation needs in the shelters and shelter locations. - Different categories of a hurricane. - 45 miles per our. Uniform speed for all departments. - Fuel backup for county and utilizing school busses for evacuation. - Forecast for this area. For this year, 11 main storms, 7 of which could be hurricanes. - The fire service will be involved in all emergency plans.
