EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to provide approval to designate the Sheriff as the official applicant and point of
contact for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance
STOP Violence Threat Assessment and Technology Program Grant FY 2018. Authorize the
acceptance of the grant when awarded, approve associated budget amendments and approve the
Collier County Sheriff’s Office to receive and expend 2018 grant funds.

OBJECTIVE: To request approval from the Board of County Commission to designate the Sheriff as
the official applicant and point of contact for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs,
Bureau of Justice Assistance STOP Violence Threat Assessment and Technology Program Grant
FY2018. Authorize the acceptance of the grant when awarded, approve associated budget amendments
and approve the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to receive and expend 2018 grant funds.
CONSIDERATION: The Sheriff’s Office will prepare a grant application for the development and
operation of school threat assessment and crisis intervention teams.
FISCAL IMPACT: The 25% cash or in-kind match requirement will be provided by the Prime
Prevention Fund 603. The source of funding are court fees.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
GROWTH MANAGEMENT: There are no Growth Management Plan impacts resulting from this
grant.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners provide approval to designate the
