PROCLAMA TION
the Ch/ldren's Advocacy Center of Collier County and the Shelter for Abused Women &
Children in conjunction with the Collier County Government Safe Havens Supervised Visitation
and Safe Exchange Grant Program recognize the month of Mayas Supervised Visitation
Awareness Month: and,
the children of Collier County are entitled to live and grow in a healthy, nurturing
environment, free from intimidation and harm: and,
domestic violence is extremely damaging to children who live with it and has a profound
effect on their behavioral, psychol"!lical, developmental, educational and social functioning:
and.
children that grow up in households where there is domestic violence are more likely to
become victims or perpetrators of domestic violence: and.
the local community domestic violence agency, the Shelter for Abused Women & Children,
provided services to over TOO children in their shelter, counseling and transitional living
programs: and.
in the past year, the Children's Advocacy Center Family Safety Program provided over TOO
supervised visits and over 1100 safe exchanges for children in families impacted by domestic
violence: and,
supervised visitation allows children to maintain a relationship with both of their parents and
to visit the non residential parent in a safe, comfortable environment: and,
during the month of May, Collier County will promote community involvement, raise awareness
and educate parents and caregivers to assist adult and child victims of domestic violence and
to address the need for safe visitation and exchange.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that
May, 2011 be designated as
SUPERVISED VISITATION AWARENESS MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 10th Day of May 2011.
